The population in the region tripled in the past 65 years to 4 billion. They are forming the largest working population the world has ever seen. There are now more working-aged people and fewer dependents than at any point in history, providing a springboard for growth. To be exact, 68 percent of people are of working age and only 32 percent are dependents. This is an opportunity.

Haoliang Xu : Remarks at meeting on contribution to UNDP from Russian Federation towards recovery and rebuilding of Vanuatu after Cyclone PamSep 18, 2015We are meeting to present an agreement for a US$500,000 contribution from the Russian Federation to the recovery of Vanuatu after the devastating Cyclone Pam. UNDP welcomes this agreement. The contribution represents an important assistance to livelihoods recovery efforts of the Government of Vanuatu which is supported by UNDP. This generous contribution will be used by UNDP and its partners to further build on the results already achieved.
