Climate and Disaster Resilience

UNDP’s support to countries on climate change and disaster resilience is shaped by five main areas: Climate Change Adaptation, Climate Finance, Sustainable Energy and Disaster Risk Reduction. The Paris Agreement on Climate Change, the Sendai Framework on Disaster Risk Reduction, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development frame the vision and the UNDP works with countries to help them reduce greenhouse gases and advance a long-term goal of zero-carbon development.

UNDP Climate Promise

UNDP is scaling-up our support to countries through “UNDP’s Climate Promise: Ambition, Acceleration and Mobilization.” A new report in partnership with UNFCCC will offer the most detailed review to date of how ambitious countries are on climate action. UNDP will provide support to 100 countries to accelerate the enhancement of national climate pledges by 2020, building on our climate action portfolio in over 140 countries. And we are developing new ways of mobilizing all people to inform climate action.

UNDP will take responsibility and not ask others to do what we are not prepared to do ourselves. We will lead by example and take action to aggressively reduce our own climate footprint, setting the bar high.
