Our Focus

When planned and managed properly, urbanization has great potential to provide a complex web with the spatial, social and economic dimensions of urban inclusion reinforcing each other. Concurrently, technology is an enabler to help promote inclusion through citizen engagement, universal access to urban services and efficient delivery of integrated governmental support.

Relevant topics: Smart cities, public-private partnership, ICT, digitalization, innovation, urban poverty, urban service provision, slum upgrade, gender, public space design, urban planning, mobility, local governance, etc.

Making cities sustainable means rethinking every aspect of urban living. This includes moving away from conventional practices such as degenerating resources and landfill dumping. Cities are uniquely positioned to drive a global transition towards circular economies through a high concentration of resources, expertise, data and capital within a relatively small geographic area.

Relevant topics: energy, waste management, circular economy, marine plastic reduction, urban pollution, water management, natural resource management, etc.

Alongside the UNDP’s ‘Climate Promise’ to ensure countries to submit enhanced Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC), an integrated urban offer has been made to support the development of a holistic city-level road map for formulating a low-carbon, resilient and inclusive development plan which simultaneously addresses the SDGs. Efforts at the city-level will eventually feed into NDCs and accelerate the country’s journey.

Relevant topics: climate change, urban resilience, Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), disaster risk reduction, climate action and promise, etc.
