"Festiversities", or Festivals of Diversity

In partnership with Indika Foundation, UNDP has been conducting a series of successful workshops and events called Festivals of Diversity - colloquially named "Festiversities" - throughout Indonesia over the last few years. These Festiversities aim to promote tolerance and understanding in different communities and build respect for socio-cultural diversity.

The first was called "Celoteh Toleransi" or Talking Tolerance, which was carried out in Yogyakarta and Surakarta. This program was tailored to female youth, Islamic subject teachers, women's family members or caretakers with young children, consisting of three activities: storytelling training for parents and teachers, coloring competitions for young children, and a live storytelling show.

The "Simfoni Toleransi" or Symphony of Tolerance involved the student activity units from 12 Islamic Universities as local partners. The series of festivals was conducted in 10 different cities to spread the ideals of tolerance, peace, and diversity through various creative activities. The events included music concerts, talk shows on diversity and critical thinking, interfaith dialogues, cultural speech and art competitions.
