Peace Heroes Formation Programme

Building a Citizenry of Peace Heroes

UNDP Philippines partnered with Teach Peace Build Peace Movement (TPBPM) to support the Peace Heroes Formation Program: Building a Citizenry of Peace Heroes. The program sought to strengthen the advocacy of mainstreaming peace education and improving the capacities of schools and communities in establishing a Peace Education Program. UNDP Philippines supported the implementation of the program in line with the Kalilintad (Peace) Roadmap of the Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur, in relation to the Prevention of Violent Extremism and Preparations for an Aftercare Track for Children and Youth Returnees using a comprehensive and holistic approach. Through this engagement, we were able to:

  • Build an alliance of partners composed of local government units, national and regional government agencies, and the security sector for the mainstreaming of peace education in the province of Lanao del Sur;
  • Strengthen leadership in peace education through formation sessions among school officials and teachers which focus on Building a Citizenry of Peace Heroes, Education Leadership for Peace, and Strengthening Family-School Community Involvement in Peace Education;
  • Strengthen capacities among youth and community leaders and security sector representatives in building a culture of peace and resilience through peace education; and
  • Enhancing learning resources for peace education, including an aftercare track in support of the rehabilitation and reintegration of children and youth returnees from armed groups.
