Women Insider Mediators Platform

Women Insider Mediators Platform

Taking into account the important role of women in community peacebuilding, UNDP Philippines supported a design workshop for a women insider mediators platform which will focus on building and strengthening insider mediation capacities among women involved in conflict-prevention and management roles at the community level.

Participants included women representatives from community-based organizations in the Bangsamoro, the Regional Commission on Bangsamoro Women of the BARMM, local government units in Mindanao, as well as from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front Bangsamoro Islamic Women Auxiliary Brigade (BIWAB). Community-based women mediators from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Thailand were also invited as participants.

Among the key needs expressed by the women insider mediators included the following: the real-time sharing of practical lessons and tips; readily availabile targeted technical, logistical and financial capabilities for mediation work; and accompaniment, peer support, and mentoring by fellow insider mediators. Moving forward, the groups put forth the following next steps:

  • Establishing exchanges between regional women’s insider mediators;
  • Developing an online platform for networking, and knowledge and resource sharing;
  • Capacity-building for mediation skills and techniques;
  • Supporting the development and implementation of community-based plans for conflict-prevention;
  • Strengthening mechanisms for the protection of women insider mediators.
